Rotavirus--yay.

Tommy enjoyed an encounter with this on Saturday, and decided to share it with Louis and Elizabeth.

Dad's French-Army-In-1940 immune system decided to join in the Fun!™ yesterday. Whee.

How I knew I was sick: they wanted to watch the Bubble Guppies, and I had no objection.

We're getting better, but yeesh. I'll say this--Louis is tougher than a box of roofing nails. He had it the worst, and griped not at all. Amazing kid.

  1. As someone who is often stuck watching Bubble Guppies, and Caillou, and Toopy and Binoo, and Octonauts and a whole host of other shows, I feel your pain.

(Hard to say which is the worst. I keep hoping to see a show entitled "Caillou gets a whuppin'" or "Caillou takes a round to the head", if that indicates my preference.)

I seem to have trained my (then) 5-year old well when he came up with this:

    A, B, C, D, E, F, G,
    Barney is my enemy
Stick a rifle up his nose,
pull the trigger, up he goes,
    A, B, C, D, E, F, G,
    Barney is my enemy

  3. Cannot. Abide. Caillou.

Even when I'm not ill, Bubble Guppies doesn't dance on my last nerve like a lot of the other kids' shows, for some reason.

James Lileks had a great bit of snark about watching "Dragon Tales" with his then-preschool daughter:

"Turn on the TV so Gnat can watch the lugubrious “Dragon Tales,” in which big-headed moppets consort with dragons who can fly despite the obvious insufficiency of their wingspans. It’s all scored with oboe and bassoon and flute,, and the music sounds like the bowels of some rich Roman who dined on goat brains and lark thyroid.

Every day I hope the show will revolve around the death of the dragons due to some horrible intestinal parasite the moppets bring from their world; every morning I am disappointed."

  4. Scott--that's funny. I'm going to run it past my older kids.

  5. I had forgotten Dragon Tales. I used to suffer through that one a while back.

Another show with an annoying round headed kid and dragons is Mike the Knight. Annoying to the core. Particularly bad is the jam tart lovin', happy hoppy Vikings, who just drop in to party every now and then.

I wonder why I haven't just pulled out my sledge hammer (dubbed "Mjlornir") and gone all Thor on the tv set.

  6. That's the gastro-intestinal thing, right? If it is, I had that a week or so ago. Literally stayed up all night puking my guts out. Watched a lot of public television and whatever movies were on the retro digital channels here.

Be reasonably civil. Ire alloyed with reason is fine. But slagging the host gets you the banhammer.
